The safety and comfort of all will be enhanced when Cut Bank residents and visitors observe these local laws.
Speed limits: The local speed limit is 25 mph in town except where otherwise marked. The limit in school zones is 15 mph.
Seat belt use: Seat belt use is required by the driver and all passengers in any motor vehicle. No driver may operate a motor vehicle unless each occupant is wearing a properly adjusted and fastened seat belt or car seat.
Alcohol: Driving under the influence of alcohol is a criminal offense. Persons under the age of 21 may not consume or possess any alcoholic beverage.
There is no prohibition of consuming alcoholic beverages in the Cut Bank City Park on Main Street. However, such beverages must be in plastic or aluminum containers. Glass containers are not permitted. Alcohol may not be sold anywhere between 2-8 a.m.
Curfews: Children 15 years old or younger may not be upon any public thoroughfare or in any public place or other place without acceptable supervision from 10:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. anytime. Children 15-17 years old have curfew hours Sunday - Thursday from 11:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. Weekend curfew is 12:30 p.m to 6 a.m.
Snow and Ice Removal: It is the duty of the owner or tenant of any premises within the city to keep the sidewalk in front of and abutting his premises free and safe for pedestrians.
Within a reasonable length of time, these persons must remove snow, ice, slush, mud and other threats to safe foot travel and must prevent the accumulation of the items upon the sidewalks.
Sidewalks must be cleared from the night’s accumulation of snow by 9 a.m. Snow from parking lots within the business district may not be dumped in the streets or alleys. Furthermore, business owners may not remove snow, ice or slush from the business premises and deposit it on the streets or alleys.
Campers and RVs (parking and storage): No person may park any motor vehicle for camping purposes or any RV over five consecutive days on city streets nor block alley ways at anytime. All parking restrictions that apply to cars also apply to RVs.
Open burning: Open burning is prohibited within the city limits. In certain cases, a special permit can be issued from the Cut Bank Volunteer Fire Department.
Fireworks: The sale or discharge of fireworks is prohibited within the city limits.
Weeds: No property owner may allow grass, leaves, weeds or other vegetation to accumulate on his property so as to present a fire hazard. Weeds must not be taller than eight inches. Notices are given out to property owners to mow/trim these areas of their property with a reasonable amount of time to comply to the notice.
Storage of Salvage: Permanent open storage of salvage, inoperable vehicles, rubbish or other chattel shall not be permitted in any residential district.
Storage of salvage in industrial or commercial districts must be inside a building or fenced from public view in accordance with city standards.
Vehicles left on city streets and unmoved for a period of five days may be considered abandoned and impounded by the city.
Business License: The City of Cut Bank requires all businesses pay a licensing fee of $25 by January 31st, except for those businesses which are exempt from paying business license fees by Montana law. These include: attorneys, barbers, beauty shops, chiropractors, physicians, surgeons, dentists, accountants, engineers, speech pathologists and audiologists, real estate and insurance agents. The cost for a business license is $40 for transient, itinerant and door-to-door retail merchants and $25 for home businesses.
Animal Control: All dogs kept, harbored or maintained in the City of Cut Bank shall be vaccinated and registered on or before the 15th day of April of each year.
The owner shall state at the time of application for registration and upon printed forms provided for such purpose his/her name, address, and the name, breed, color, and sex of each dog owned or kept by him/her.
The fee for a spayed female or a neutered male dog is $5.00 paid annually with certified proof of Rabies vaccination present at time of registration.
The fee for a non-spayed female or a non-neutered male dog is $10.00 paid annually with certified proof of Rabies vaccination present at time of registration.
Dog Licenses are available at Cut Bank Police Department, 113 East Main, Monday- Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Late charges of $10.00 will be assessed if the license fee is not paid by April 15th of the each year. If you have any questions, please contact Cut Bank Police Department at 873-2289.
